Wind howling, lights out, CPAP useless, and me lying there thinking, Well… here we go again.It’s funny how storms don’t ask permission. They don’t check your schedule. They don’t wait for a better time. They just show up—loud, inconvenient, and right when you thought you were finally catching your breath.Life works the same way. You get one area calmed down, and another gust hits. You fix one thing, and something else starts rattling. Different day, same shaking.But storms have a way of teaching us things we don’t learn in the sunshine. They slow us down. They strip away the illusion that we’re in control. And they remind us—sometimes painfully, sometimes gently—that God’s faithfulness isn’t tied to the weather.Storms don’t expose our weakness as much as they reveal His steadiness. They show us what holds when everything else is shaking. They show us Who holds us when we can’t hold ourselves.And here’s the part that settles me every time: He’s the same in the sunshine and the same in the blackout. The same when the power is humming and the same when the house goes dark. The same when life feels manageable and the same when it feels like too much.If He didn’t leave me in the last storm, He’s not about to start now. Not in this one. Not in the next one. Not ever.Storms come and go. But the One who stands with us in them—He stays.

The storm rolled through, the power went out, and with it went my CPAP. No power means no sleep — at least not the kind that keeps you upright and breathing steady.I tried sleeping sitting up. Didn’t work. Every time I drifted off, I woke right back up. By the time the sun started thinking about rising, I felt like I’d already lived a whole day.But here’s the thing I noticed in the middle of all that frustration: God doesn’t wait for a perfect night to give you a new morning.He meets you right where you wake up — even if you woke up ten times, even if you barely slept, even if you’re running on fumes and a prayer.The morning doesn’t judge how the night went. It just shows up. And God does the same — steady, faithful, not shaken by storms or power outages or the long hours in between.Scripture says, “In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice.” Well, He heard mine last night too — the tired sighs, the restless shifting, the “Lord, help me get through this” whispered into the dark.So today, I’m taking a breath. Not because I’m rested, but because He’s still here. New mercy doesn’t depend on a good night’s sleep. New strength doesn’t require eight hours. It just requires Him.Walk gently into this day. You may be tired, but you’re not alone. God is already ahead of you — storm or no storm.

It wasn’t a dramatic moment. No thunder. No angelic choir. Just a quiet morning and a tired man trying to gather himself for the day.But something settled in my spirit — a realization I didn’t expect:God was already here.Before I prayed. Before I planned. Before I worried. Before I tried to “get myself together.”He was already here.And that truth hit me harder than any sermon I’ve preached.We spend so much of our lives trying to “find” God, as if He’s hiding behind the next spiritual accomplishment. We chase the next feeling, the next breakthrough, the next moment that proves He’s paying attention. But the truth is simpler and far more comforting:He meets us where we are, not where we think we should be.That morning didn’t change the world, but it changed me.It reminded me that God doesn’t wait for perfect conditions. He doesn’t wait for us to be strong. He doesn’t wait for us to be holy, polished, or emotionally steady.He steps into the ordinary and fills it with His presence.The porch. The kitchen table. The hospital room. The car ride. The sleepless night. The moment you whisper, “Lord, I don’t even know what to pray.”He’s already there.And maybe that’s what someone needs today — not a miracle, not a sign, not a breakthrough… just the reminder that God is already here, in the middle of your real life, your real mess, your real questions.You don’t have to climb a mountain to reach Him. You don’t have to earn your way into His presence. You don’t have to pretend you’re okay.You just have to notice.Because the God who was there before the sun broke through the clouds on my porch… is the same God who is sitting with you right now.Already present. Already working. Already holding what you haven’t even spoken yet.Sometimes the greatest spiritual discovery isn’t that God showed up — it’s realizing He never left.

After reading up on what it was I decided to write my own.&nbsp;There are moments when the Spirit slows us down just long enough to see the trail of mercies behind us. Not the big ones only — the quiet ones, the hidden ones, the ones we forgot to thank Him for.Dayenu is the heart that says: “Lord, if You had only done this one thing… it would have been enough.”But He didn’t stop at one thing. He kept going. Grace upon grace. Mercy upon mercy. Strength upon strength.And when you look back over your own life, your own calling, your own valleys and victories, you start to see your own Dayenu forming.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;My Dayenu&nbsp; If You had given me breath this morning, and nothing more — it would have been enough. If You had carried me through seasons I thought would break me — it would have been enough. If You had placed a calling on my life to serve as a chaplain — it would have been enough. If You had let me stand beside bedsides, hold hands, pray peace, and speak hope — it would have been enough. If You had given me words when I had none, and silence when silence was holy — it would have been enough. If You had walked with me through my own valleys while I walked with others through theirs — it would have been enough. If You had given me a family to love, even in the messy, real-life days — Dayenu. If You had given me children who stretch me, teach me, and remind me of grace — it would have been enough. If You had given me the strength to keep showing up when I felt empty — it would have been enough. If You had given me work to do with my hands — computers to fix, systems to build, problems to solve — it would have been enough. If You had given me creativity to write, preach, blog, and tell stories that breathe life — it would have been enough. If You had given me a home, even with its repairs and surprises — it would have been enough. If You had given me laughter in the middle of stress — it would have been enough. If You had given me friends who check in, listen, and walk with me — it would have been enough. If You had given me forgiveness for the things I regret — it would have been enough. If You had given me second chances, and third, and fourth — it would have been enough. If You had given me Your presence in the quiet hours when no one else sees — it would have been enough.But You did more. You always do more. And for every mercy behind me and every mercy ahead — it would have been enough.Lord, thank You for every mercy You’ve poured into my life — the seen and the unseen. Teach my heart to live in Dayenu, to recognize that Your grace has already been more than enough. Let gratitude steady me today. Amen.

Just tired — the kind of tired that settles into the bones.He had given everything he had, and still the world felt loud: threats, expectations, responsibilities, the weight of being the one who “should be strong.” So he ran to the mountain, maybe hoping God would show up with something big enough to match the chaos inside him.And then the wind came — but God wasn’t in it. The earthquake shook the ground — but God wasn’t in that either. The fire blazed — still no God.Then came a gentle whisper.Not a shout. Not a command. Not a performance. Just a whisper — the kind you only hear when you stop moving long enough to listen.Sometimes God waits for the noise to settle because He knows a whisper reaches places a shout never could. The whisper is personal. It’s close. It’s the voice that calls you by name when you feel like you’ve lost yourself.For a chaplain, for a caregiver, for anyone who carries other people’s stories, this is good news. You don’t have to live in the wind, the quake, or the fire. You don’t have to match the noise of the world. You just have to make enough room for the whisper.And the whisper still comes — in the hallway before you enter a room, in the quiet of early morning, in the moment between one need and the next.God is not far. He is near enough to whisper.

A single room with a stove, a Bible, a chalkboard, and a door that was almost never locked.
People didn’t come because of programs or polish. They came because it was there — a steady place in a wide and unpredictable world.
Travelers who found one after miles of dust and silence felt something shift inside them. Relief first. Then safety. Then that quiet sense that they had stepped into a room where human lives had gathered and prayed and hoped. A place that welcomed without watching, offered shelter without questions, and held space without demanding anything in return.
That’s the heart behind this chapel.
A small, steady place along the road.
Open to whoever wanders in.
Not trying to be everything — just trying to be here.
A place for prayer, for rest, for a word of blessing, for a moment to breathe.
